Final Fantasy developer licenses Unreal 3 engine
Tokyo (Japan) - Square Enix, developer of the Final Fantasy game series, said that it has reached an agreement with Epic Games to license the Unreal 3 engine for its next-generation titles.
This marks a first for the company, which has relied on its own proprietary technologies for video games that were released in the past 20 years. Square Enix said that it will not drop its own development efforts, but will use third party solutions such as the Unreal 3 engine to "ensure both game quality and development efficiency for next-generation game systems including consoles, PCs and network titles."
