Barracuda

by

Since Linux does very well as an email server, with Sendmail and Qmail being the top email programs, it makes sense for an anti-SPAM company to exhibit at these expos. Barracuda Networks has a rack mountable appliance that will intercept, quarantine and kill incoming SPAM and viruses before they get to your email server, the company says.

The appliance runs a modified Linux kernel and has a Web interface. Spam and virus definitions are updated every hour. Inbound messages are filtered for SPAM and viruses, then the acceptable messages are forwarded to your email server. In an age where up to 90% to 95% percent of a company's incoming email is SPAM, server loads and storage space can be dramatically decreased.

Barracuda sells several models of its anti-SPAM appliance. For small- to medium-sized businesses, the Model 200 will filter one million emails a day. Its Model 600 will scan 25 million emails a day, the company says.
