Sony's DVD Changer for Your Car
Geez if you're worried about people talking on cell phones when they drive, Sony's latest gadget will make you want to take the bus. Sony's new in-car DVD/CD changer is supposed to keep your kids from whining and playing Punch Buggy when you're on a road trip. I'm personally envisioning a new trend toward driving vacations in the months to come as folks avoid air travel. In fact, driving has always been my personal favorite way to travel. Hopefully, your kids will use headphones as they turn on the tube and turn off the sights so you don't have to listen to Bugs Bunny as you trek those 3,000 miles to Graceland. When added to a car A/V component such as an installed LCD monitor, Sony's new changer offers playback and storage in the car for 10 DVDs and/or CDs, including CD-R/RW discs. With its RF modulator, the changer can be added to any car audio system that has an FM tuner. It also has pre-amplifier outputs for auxiliary input use. The DVD changer gives you the option of using a wired or wireless remote to shuffle between discs or move from a DVD to an audio CD. For safety purposes, the unit has two video outputs. The front output automatically disengages when the car is in motion to ensure the driver won't be distracted (we hope). Available next month, the DVX-DVD 100 is expected to sell for about $1,000. It could bring you back to the days of drive-in movies. Keep the thing playing while you and your beloved are parked at Lover's Lane and, if they cops come along to roust you, you can tell them you were just looking to find a quiet place to watch a movie.
