Sony warns of PlayStation shortages

Sony is warning that PlayStations will be in short supply for the holiday shopping season.

The company said it would not be able to meet demand, according to Bloomberg, with the U.S. expected to suffer the worst of the shortages.

The prediction comes less than three months after Sony cut the price of PlayStations from $129 to $99, causing sales to rocket.

Sony said this week that it expects PlayStation sales to top $1 billion for the holiday season, with rival Sega quickly upping its own sales forecast of its Dreamcast console from 1 million to 1.5 million by the end of 1999.
