Sony has previewed two new form factors for its VAIO family of PCs: a sleek LCD desktop computer and a micronotebook with an integrated digital camera.

Sony's PCV-L400/PCV-L600 VAIO Slimtop LCD computers are about 75 percent smaller than standard desktops. The 12-pound desktop PC incorporates many notebook components, including a high-quality digital multimedia LCD screen. The L400 features a 400MHz Pentium II processor, a 6.4GB hard drive and 64MB of SDRAM. The L600 has a 500MHz Pentium III processor, a 10.8GB hard drive and 128MB of SDRAM.

The compact PCs are due to ship in March at prices that start at $2,299.

The VAIO C1 PictureBook Micronotebook is a computer/digital camera hybrid weighing 2.5 pounds and measuring 1.5 inches thick. The PictureBook computer is a full Windows 98, 266MHz Pentium MMX system roughly the size of a paperback book, featuring a built-in swivel camera housed in the top bezel of the display. The PictureBook computer comes with a 4.3GB hard drive, integrated V.90 modem, 64MB to 128MB of SDRAM, USB floppy disk drive, video and USB ports. The system is due to ship in March, starting at $2,299.99.
