Sony to join digital broadcasting alliance?

Japanese electronics makers Sony, Matsushita and Toshiba are in talks on possible cooperation in digital satellite broadcasting, a Sony spokesman said.

One report said the talks could lead to a joint venture as early as this fall by the three firms, which have already agreed to cooperate on digital TV receivers, including joint development of a standard format able to pick up signals from both broadcast satellites and next-generation communications satellites.
