Sony To Bundle StarOffice
Sony will become the first tier one PC maker to include version 6.0 of StarOffice on most consumer desktop PCs sold that will be sold in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, according to Sun. Currently Microsoft's Works is currently bundled with most of those PCs.
This deal is quite a blow to Microsoft's dominance of office applications, an arena that is led by Works and its more expensive business-oriented sibling, Microsoft Office. This is quite a victory for StarOffice and Sun which has followed the lead of Corel who announced that it had made a deal to bundle the Word Perfect suite with HP systems earlier this year.
