Sony shows off new TiVo player

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Sony has developed a new personal video recorder aimed at the emerging Internet music and personal television market.

The device, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is based on technology developed by TiVo Inc. that uses a huge hard disk to record television programs, can "pause" live broadcasts and learn what viewers like to watch.

Sony officials say the recorder can hold 30 gigabytes of data - enough for 30 hours of video. The device is expected to hit stores in the first quarter of this year and will sell for $399, or about 20 percent less than current models.
