Sony Ships DVD Players With SACD Playback

by - source: Tom's Hardware

It's no surprise that Sony would come out with a line of DVD players that support the six-channel Super Audio CD (SACD) format, since it was developed by the company, along with Philips, back in 1999. For film and music buffs with multi-speaker theater systems already in place, the format could make both the audio and video experience more enjoyable - especially if audio CDs start being recorded to take advantage of all six speakers. Sony just released three new DVD-Video that support SACD playback. The new players include the single-disc DVP-NS500V, the five-disc DVP-NC650V, and the DVP-NS900V model, which offers progressive output. Each unit is equipped with multi-channel audio outputs for compatibility with multi-channel sources and support CD-R/RW playback. Basically, you could use one of these gadgets to replace your outdated CD player while you move to DVD, adding the ability to listend to CD-Rs on your home stereo in the process. All three players include Dolby Digital and dts 5.1 channel decoding for connection with receivers, Dynamic Tilt Compensation, and Block Noise Reduction. Aside from these features, the difference between the entry-level DVP-NS500V and DVP-NC650V is that the 650V is a five disc changer and the 500V plays a single disc. The higher-end DVP-NS900V adds 480P (progressive) output with full 3:2 reverse pull-down conversion along with other features. The DVP-NS500V, DVP-NC650V, and the DVP-NS900V are all available now for about $300, $400, and $1,000 respectively.
