Tokyo (Japan) - The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, a major Japanese business newspaper, has reported that Sony will ship 80,000 PlayStation 3 consoles during the Japanese November 11th launch. This is 20% less than the 100,000 Sony promised back in September.

The Japanese cut mirrors what Sony is doing for the U.S. market. Sony had promised 500,000 units for the November 17th launch, but recently cut the projection to 400,000. It’s unclear whether the 20,000 cut Japanese units will be added to the U.S. total or if they will disappear completely.

Sony dropped the price for the Japanese version of the console 20% in September.
