Sony chases rivals in image chip race
Sony, the world leader in video equipment, finds itself in the unusual position of playing catch-up in the next battleground for technology used in cameras, video recorders and phones.
Sony is number one in the market for charge-coupled devices (CCDs) - image-capture technology at the heart of its photo and video products - and wants to capture a similar position in the emerging market for CMOS sensor chips.
