Some Napster plans revealed
As early as June, the new Napster will employ a proprietary digital-rights management system that will restrict what members can do with files downloaded from other Napster members. Napster is pitching the new system to music labels and publishers in an effort to bring inventory to its catalogue of legally downloadable song files.
It was also announced that Napster and Bertelsmann AG are making progress toward designing a subscription-based business model. Though little detail has been released, it seems that the companies assume users will continue to host music files on their computers that Napster will charge others for downloading.
