The wave of the future for servers seems to be Flash memory, despite its inherent volatility. Imperial Technology just announced the MegaRam-2000 storage accelerator, based on the company's MegaRam-5000, a solid-state accelerator that uses a native Fibre Channel architecture. Imperial says that solid-state accelerators provide access to data hundreds of times faster than conventional rotating disks. MegaRam-2000 provides more than 38 GB of capacity in 3.50 inches of rack space. It supports 100MB/sec Fibre Channel or 80MB/sec SCSI connections and has an access time of 0.035 milliseconds. MegaRam-2000 can be configured with two Fibre Channel ports for independent and redundant data paths. It includes redundant, hot-swappable power supplies, built-in battery units, and redundant cooling fans. Imperial says that the MTBF for the storage modules is more than 1,500,000 hours. Each system has error detection and correction circuitry that can detect and correct six Bytes of data. MegaRam-2000 is priced at $25,000.
