Solid State Disk Accelerator For SAN and e-Commerce

Honest to goodness, we're just running out of snappy intros for all of these solid-state disks. They're just everywhere. Curtis Inc. just told us about one called the Nitro!Xe that will be available to VARs and OEMs at high volume pricing below $3/MB. That's a heck of a lot more than a plain old spinning hard drive, but not too bad for a solid state storage device. The Nitro!Xe uses DRAM memory technology and has an integrated battery-backup and an Ultra2, 80 MB/sec SCSI interface. It comes in a 3.5" SCA drive form factor and is available in storage capacities from 512MB to 4.3GB. Curtis says they think the disk would be applicable to E-commerce, Storage Area Networks, OLTP, and data acquisition apps, primarily due to its high MTBF. The Nitro!Xe can be shuttled or rack mounted. If they could put a shoulder strap on it, it would hold a hell of a lot of MP3s. It has a battery, right?
