Solar storm hits Earth
The first effects of four solar flares and two powerful magnetic gas clouds created in a giant sunspot have hit the earth. An interplanetary shock wave passed NASA's ACE spacecraft at 0025 UT and hit Earth's magnetosphere about 30 minutes later. More solar radiation will follow throughout the weekend and operators of satellite and power systems may notice minor disruptions. Scientists are watching carefully to see if even stronger storms follow.
