G.Skill's Sniper Gun-Shaped Memory Modules
Sorry, but G.Skill's hot, new sniper gun-shaped memory is just too cool.
Earlier this week, G.Skill announced the launch of its sniper-shaped memory modules aimed at PC gamers and modding enthusiasts.
We originally caught a glimpse of the new Sniper Memory Series earlier this month during CeBIT 2011, sporting the unique-yet-uber-cool gun-shaped heat spreader that would surely get Jack Thompson and parents of young PC gamers all up in arms over the questionable design. The Sniper modules sat alongside G.Skill's new Phoenix II SSD featuring the new SandForce SF-2200 controller, allowing for sequential read speeds up to 550 MB/s and write speeds up to 500 MB/s.
According to G.Skill, the new Sniper series was designed in ultra-low voltage, particularly 1.25V. This feature alone points to a possible power savings of up to 10-percent, allowing PC gamers to push other components without having to worry about overheating issues with the memory. G.Skill said it performed extensive compatibility tests across a wide range of Intel and AMD platforms to "guarantee the best performance, quality and reliability for user’s gaming needs."
As expected, the Sniper kits come in various flavors ranging from 1.25V to 1.6V, and capacities of 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB and 24 GB. The assortment also works at frequencies ranging from 1333 MHz to 1866 MHz, and is compatible on numerous platforms including P55, P67, H61, H67, X58 and AMD AM3, depending on the kit. G.Skill also offers 4GBx2 to 4GBx6 versions as well.
"This Sniper series comes with two stylish colors, unique pitch-black and metallic army green," the company said. "Its unparallel PC gaming style can enrich all kinds of computer gears. G.Skill is ready to pull the trigger, are you?"

Bah, seriously you love the look of this? It looks like a cheap kids plastic gun. My favorite memory i've ever had was Geils Titanium DDR 550 with polished reflective metal heat spreaders. Looked much better than plastic and reflected the PC interior and lighting.
I look for less heat on RAM, not a "gun" lol.

Some of us do - aesthetics are just as important as performance.
That being said, this is just tacky. As if ammo clip heatsinks on the new Gigabyte gaming boards weren't bad enough, you can now match it with sniper rifle RAM!
