SnapGear frees embedded Linux distribution
Internet security product maker and OEM SnapGear last week announced the first free commercial-grade embedded Linux distribution for development of secure Internet-ready products. The distribution provides embedded Linux support for "deeply embedded" microprocessors such as Motorola ColdFire, ARM and LEON SPARC, as well as "MMUful cores" such as Hitachi SuperH, Intel XScale IXP425, Intel x86, and other ARM cores. The distribution includes toolchains and library support to provide a "one-stop" executable and source collection.Although it may seem that SnapGear is giving away the family jewels, CEO Rick Stevenson hopes to make money when developers turn to SnapGear to manufacture and provide fulfillment services for the products they design. The distribution is available for immediate free download or can be purchased on CD for a nominal postage and handling charge.
