Vapochill Micro

Asetek has taken a new path with its Vapochill Micro. This vendor, best known for its compressor cooling products, offers a product that's pretty newfangled, though not unfamiliar to the staff at THG. We tested a beta version of LG Thermo Technologies' Calmera cooling solution in our labs way back in March 2004; the Vapochill Micro unit is a refinement of the Calmera cooler. Thus, Asetek isn't venturing into completely uncharted territory with its Vapochill Micro. It operates on the principle of vapour phase change, using an internal liquid-to-vapour change to efficiently spread CPU heat to an air-cooled fin structure.

There are various differences between the first beta versions of this cooler and the retail model now in our labs for review. That said, the special design of this cooler still permits it to be installed either horizontally or vertically.

The shape of this cooler's plastic cover, and the special fan design, both enable Vapochill's vapour phase cooler to also cool various other chips on the motherboard, such as the voltage regulator.
