SiS expands into server business with Opteron chipsets
Chipset manufacturer SiS today announced its first chipset for the AMD Opteron platform. The 756 northbridge and 966 southbridge is the first chipset "in a series of server solutions" that aims to take advantage of the growing popularity of the x86 server segment.
The debut platform is based on PCI Express (2 x1) and PCI-X interfaces and comes with four SATA II ports, and support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1, JBOD, and 5. The 966 southbridge delivers eight USB 2.0 ports and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Following the 756 northbridge, SiS will be offering the 761SX version, which adds a graphics accelerator.
