Sirius/XM service would offer two tiers of programming
Washington (DC) - According to federal documents in the FCC probe, Sirius and XM are planning to offer two levels of service when and if they merge to become one satellite radio service.
While questions continue to loom about how Sirius and XM will handle their programming after the merger, some light was shed on what they’ll do with the price.
"After the merger, customers may elect to receive fewer channels at a monthly price lower than $12.95 ; substantially similar programming at the existing $12.95 price ; or more channels...at a modest premium to the cost of one service, and considerably less than the cost of subscribing to both services," said Sirius in its FCC filing.
The merge has caused a lot of critics to argue that it would violate antitrust laws. The two radio companies are currently in the middle of an FCC hearing to see if they can indeed join together to prevent heated competition with each other.
