And So It Goes.....

Siggraph is a good place to look for a job at all those cool places that wouldn't let you get close to HR otherwise.
After the hype, pomp and circumstance of the 3D graphics accelerator market, the Windows NT versus Silicon Graphics wars, and 3D graphics made special effects really cool, Siggraph has settled back into its traditional role.
You don't really see the CAD guys around these days like you used to. It's mostly dominated by the DCC crowd, and the sex appeal of special effects, game design, and other sexy imagery.
Instead we have Sony Imageworks, Rhythm and Hues, Pixar, Dreamworks and other special effects powerhouses looking for new talent. And, we have places like The Art Institutes plugging their programs for animation design. Not just one institute, but a number of universities hoping to lure new students to their graphics programs.

Or, better still, just go back to school. Plenty of academic institutions touting their animation and computer graphics programs to the crowd, probably more than we have seen at any time in the last three or four years.
Still, that's just the exhibits. The conference program is, as always, filled with everything from the highly academic papers on new simulation algorithms to the shameless vendor plugs like Cg Workshops. And, that's all good. If you ever wanted to get into graphics seriously, and didn't know where to start, now you know: get into Siggraph.
