Sharp launches 23" LCD

Huntington Beach (CA) - Sharp announced the IT-M231U, a 23" display that duplicates as HDTV-LCD. Dubbed "IT-TV", the monitor is the largest desktop display the company has offered so far.

The widescreen LCD offers enough space for using it as an upscale PC monitor as well as a functional TV, according to Sharp. The company believes that the LCD will appeal to people who want to use TV and computer applications at the same time as well as users who need to combine work and entertainment in tight environments.

The specifications match current expectations for such a device, including a contrast ratio of 550:1 and a brightness of 500 nits. The maximum resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels (WXGA) ; viewing angles are 176 degrees vertically and horizontally.

Pricing of the IT-M231U is set at $1500 and includes 5W speakers as well as a remote control.
