The Settlers series has simply had too many iterations at this point to keep adding numbers. Instead, the upcoming title has been dubbed The Settlers – Rise of a Nation.

New additions to the series promise to keep the gameplay fresh. These include the ability to play at different latitudes and in different climates, as well as the introduction (at long last) of female villagers.

Of course, the core of the game hasn’t changed too fundamentally, players are still charged with managing and expanding a virtual metropolis while keeping away encroaching enemy townships. It’s a simple formula that’s worked well so far.

The Settlers – Rise of an Empire is due for release in October.
