Self-teaching algorithm breakthrough
The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit at University College London has developed a new and more efficient system for teaching neural networks to perform vision and other machine understanding tasks. By separating perception from recognition, the algorithm requires far less outside intervention. Called a Restricted Boltzmann Machine, it is based on the "Product of Experts" recognition concept believed to mimic biological learning processes.
