Secret Weapons Over Normandy Announced

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Word arrived from one of our regular news readers late Friday, that LucasArts had announced a new game titled Secret Weapons Over Normandy, which will be developed by Totally Games. (Totally Games is the same studio that created X-Wing) Lawrence Holland and part of the team who designed LucasArts' Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe series and later went on to produce the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games formed Totally Games.

Secret Weapons Over Normandy is a WWII flight based game for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 that is a follow up to the classic LucasArts PC game Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. Secret Weapons Over Normandy is said to feature at least 30 air-to-air and ground-attack missions in 15 different theaters of operations, including Europe, North Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.

Players are said to be able to use more than 20 different aircraft, including the stables of the US forces, P-38 Lightning and the P-51 Mustang and experimental aircrafts such as the Me 163 Komet rocket plane and the Me 262 turbo jet fighter. Rumor has it that perhaps there's the possibility of manning the guns in a B-17 Flying Fortress!

In addition the PS2 and Xbox versions should include co-operative multiplayer, and the PC version will hopefully include a scenario editor.

Secret Weapons Over Normandy in in simultaneous development for release on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC platforms. The game should be on display at E3 next month, and we hope to find out more details then. LucasArts hopes to ship Secret Weapons Over Normandy the end of 2003.
