One Display I Wish I Had

I have always wanted a touch screen so that I wouldn't have to keep moving my hand from the keyboard to the mouse. That I would have the opportunity to just point at the screen and move the cursor that way. Seemed like an easy enough way of doing things.

Well, touchscreens also vary in degrees of sensitivity resulting in excessive poking and smudging of the screen by enthusiastic users. So, amid all the hallabaloo of Computex, I think it was fate that brought me to the booth of Wintime .

Wintime's tablet LCD monitor with a pressure sensitive stylus

Wintime offers a range of tablet LCD monitors that you can use in conjunction with a stylus to interface to the screen directly. Ideally suited to drawing and illustration applications, replacing the drawing tablet with a more intuitive interface I, nevertheless, love the idea of these devices.

Not too long ago, I reviewed a 3D LCD display that retails for $1699. Wintime's tablet LCD with a pressure sensitive stylus retails for about $2000 for a 15 inch display so, it's likely to be of value only to a professional user that requires the tablet and stylus functionality, but this is really cool stuff that I hope eventually becomes standard - choose a mouse or just use a stylus to move the cursor directly on the screen.

There are some provisos - the tablet LCD display is fortified with an extra thick case which makes it sturdy, but not invulnerable. So, you wouldn't want to lean on the tablet too much, just in case. Also, navigating with a stylus is not any easier than using a mouse. The stylus is more suited to graphics and design work so, this is not a product for general use. Having said all that, it was nice to see something like this at Computex, a little off the beaten track, and not just another me too product.
