Clicking To A Recession

by

As many of you fans of the IBM keyboard pointed out, Unicomp at www.pckeyboard.com still supplies the IBM keyboards. I just wonder if by turning people on to the heavy click of the original IBM keyboards we may not be changing the face of the "rabbit hutch" culture of corporate America. If the Suits could hear you because, they obviously don't want to see you then, would that make them reconsider partition walls completely? Then, they'd have to build real walls, and offices for people. Then, they'd have to employ construction workers. Then, we might, just might, avoid a recession. Or, they could just get rid of people, and only keep the silent ones around. Interesting. I am sure executives get nice offices because, that is one sure way of avoiding a recession. You can empty a hutch easily, but you can't empty an office. Doesn't look good. Hutches are meant to be impermanent, right?

Yeah, I digressed. So what? I'm mad. I just met someone who got laid off. It gets you. I think I am one of a small minority of people who has managed to traverse continents moving from one recession to another, and avoiding an upturn for as long as is geographically possible. It happened when I decided to move to America in the early nineties from Europe. I don't buy into the business press school of yo-yo reporting these days. If you want to get a feel for what I am saying try reading the Business News section on Yahoo! for a few days.

Note to self: Be nice to Suits. You might need to get a real job someday.

We're heading for a recession, and that's that. Natural part of the cyclical nature of the economy. Feast and famine. It's all biblical, you know. Anyhow, what makes me mad is that the guy who gets it in the middle of all this is the one who didn't screw up. Last year we had Suits standing up and saying how great the world looked, and in the space of a mere few months, those same Suits are into the scorched earth school of management. Hello, Suits. Weren't you the ones who were supposed to be building the company, and defining its strategy, and planning for the future? Didn't you screw up, too?

Note to self: Do you listen to anything I say?

What the heck. Most of you are going to be recession-proof. Yeah. That's what I think. You have skills and abilities that put you ahead of the pack. That's one of the advantages of being tech savvy, but I feel for anybody who is going through uncertainty right now. Most of you are the lucky ones. Okay, enough compassion. I don't want you think I am going as soft as some keyboard key, or nothing like that.
