Seagate Ships 3TB Barracuda XT
Seagate has begun shipping its 3 TB Barracuda desktop hard drive.
To deal with the 2.1 TB storage capacity limit in legacy PC BIOS designs and device drivers that are used by older operating systems such as Windows XP, Seagate offers a configuration software package that allows Windows XP and PC BIOS as well as the new UEFI BIOS to access the full storage capacity of the drive. The software can be downloaded free of charge from the manufacturer's website.
The new 72000 RPM 3.5-inch drive ships with 64 MB cache and 6 Gb SATA interface. Seagate claims a sustained data transfer rate of 138 Mb/s and an average operational power consumption of 9.23 watts. The suggested retail prices has not been announced.
