Seagate Predicts 1 TB iPod's By 2014
Seagate has been peering into the future, and the company sees lots and lots of HDD space on the horizon. At the present rate Seagate expects 2.5" drives, the type used in notebooks, to reach 1 Terabyte by 2013, six years down the road. The company also expects to get 1.8" drives, the type used in portable media players like the iPod, to 1 TB a year later, by 2014.
The company is expecting to give us 100 GB 1" drives by 2011 or so. All this is based on the math figure of a 40% increase in miniature HDD storage capacity per year, a figure which Seagate says is perfectly attainable.
1 TB is already becoming more common in desktop systems, mainly by combining two 500 GB HDD’s though. True 1 TB drives are still rare, but they are on the road towards your computer without a doubt.
