Preparing for a more competitive market for higher-speed DVD-writable drives, Sanyo Electric has developed a 660-nanometer red laser that beats current write speeds by more than a factor of two. The laser emits a steady 660-nm single-mode laser with 80-mW output power in pulsed operation.
