Sandisk's 1GB Compactflash Card

I hate to wax nostalgic about computers because it has as much of a tendency to date you as talking about your favorite period in music. It doesn't seem so long ago that having a 40 MB hard drive was a big deal to those (not me, of course) who worked on computers with everything running off of a floppy drive back when floppies really were floppy. Now, I can get more storage than that from the drugstore down the street on a card that I can fit in my pocket. In an attempt to make me feel old, SanDisk just introduced a 1-Gigabyte (GB) CompactFlash (CF) memory card that it says can store than 1000 digital images, more than 20 hours of digital music, or several hours of video. Once again I'll mention that those claims by companies should be taken with a grain of salt. If you're frequenting this site, you probably know what you can store in a GB. The 1GB SanDisk CompactFlash should be available at retail in Q1 2002 and is expected to sell for under $800, which doesn't exactly put it in the realm of mainstream users, but if you need it, you'll probably pay for it.
