Samsung Signs on to Supply More RAM to Xbox

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Seems like everyone associated with Microsoft's Xbox (except maybe Microsoft) is making buckets of money and will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Samsung is among the blessed and just announced a strategic supply agreement with Microsoft under which it will continue to supply the DDR SDRAM used in the console. Right now, each Xbox contains four 128Mb (4Mx32) DDR SDRAM devices, optimized for graphics applications, providing a total of 64 MB of system memory. Samsung says the graphics memory devices in Xbox deliver 6.4 Gigabytes per second of bandwidth. 64 MB times 1.5 million Xbox consoles (as of December 31) has to have already added up to quite a chunk of change. As an FYI, Xbox is scheduled to arrive in Europe and Australia in March 2002.
