Samsung SDI loses more ground in PDP market
After losing the top spot in the PDP (plasma display panel) market in the fourth quarter of last year to Japan-based Matsushita Electric Industrial, Samsung SDI saw its fortunes fall further last quarter, as its shipments lagged fellow Korean rival LG Electronics (LGE). Despite strong market demand for flat panel TVs last quarter, Samsung SDI reported that its PDP (plasma display panel) module shipments fell 21% sequentially to 550,000 units, down from 700,000 in the fourth quarter of 2005.
