Samsung Licenses Imagination Tuner Patents
Imagination Technologies just let us know that its patent licensing partner, Scipher plc, has granted a license to Samsung Electronics for Imagination's multimedia tuner patents. The technology covered by the patents enables TV to be watched on a PC or multimedia device and is currently used by manufacturers of PC-TV tuner cards. The same patents have also been licensed to tuner manufacturers Temic Telefunken and Philips Electronics. Imagination Technologies put QED, the patent licensing arm of Scipher, in charge of turning its PC-TV patents into cash. Now, QED is in charge of licensing of global patents covering multimedia architectures relevant to PCs, set-top-boxes, game consoles and other multimedia systems.
