Samsung dominates a growing NAND flash market

Samsung has extended its lead in the NAND flash market in the second quarter of this year. According to estimates published by iSuppli, Samsung sold NAND flash memory for about $1.4 billion in the second quarter, translating into a 45.9% market share - up almost two points from 44.1% in the first quarter.

Second in the ranking was Toshiba with sales of $828 million and a share of 27.5%, followed by Hynix with sales of $440 million and a share of 14.6%. The joint venture formed by Intel and Micron achieved a combined $230 million and a share of 7.7%, while both companies were listed separately as Intel and Micron are pursuing sales independently : Micron is listed fourth with $162 million in sales and Intel sixth with $68 million.

Other top vendors in the list were STMicro in fifth position with revenues of $70 million, Renesas in seventh with $59 million and Qimonda in eighth with $2 million.
