Salon says SDMI cracked
According to the online magazine, Salon, the music industry's first efforts at unremovable "watermarks" for music files have been cracked by hackers who ignored the urgings of those who wanted to boycott the challenge to test the system. Reportedly, all Secure Digital Music Initiative's watermarks have fallen to attack. One source says that recording industry executives held an emergency meeting to discuss the results when it became known that the watermarks had failed after only three weeks. The SDMI has not yet confirmed or denied the story.
