Australian labour government plans safer searching for children
The Australian Labour government has unveiled new plans to develop safer online searching for children.
If the government gets it’s way then internet service providers could have to filter all content so that nothing unsavoury reached the eyes of children.
This would mean that all content that goes into schools and households would be filtered, with X-rated or violent content being automatically blocked.
As you can imagine there are those who are opposed to the idea, claiming that it takes away from the freedom of the internet and they refuse to be quieted with the fact that you can contact your service provider if you want to opt out of the new filtering process.
According to the BBC, telecommunications minister, Stephen Conroy stressed that if people equated freedom of speech with watching child pornography then he would always disagree with them. Well said, Sir.
