S3 Inc. was set to announce Monday two new chips for the portable PC market, designed to enable both video gamers and business users to enjoy better graphics on the road.
Called the Savage/MX and Savage/IX, the mobile versions of the Savage graphics accelerator chip may help the company gain market share from the primary players in the estimated $430 million portable graphics chip market: NeoMagic Corp. and ATI Technologies Inc.
The Savage/MX will be priced at $42. The Savage/IX is priced at $49 for a 4MB version, $56 for an 8MB version and $68 for a 16MB version, all in quantities of 1,000 units.
