S3 places foundry orders with Fujitsu over TSMC for latest graphics chip
With Fujitsu announcing that VIA Technologies-invested S3 Graphics will place its latest 3D graphics processor foundry orders at its 12" fab on 90nm production node, market reports expressed suspicions that TSMC’s tight 90nm capacity pushed S3 to shift the orders. However, VIA stated that the choice was made due to the power-saving strengths Fujitsu offers.
