Zotob worm - a reminder for network administrators to patch

Antivirus companies today informed users of a new worm that is infecting computers around the world. While some reports indicate that Zotob is spreading like wildfire, similar to how Sasser spread in 2004, it now appears that the worm is fairly contained. The three variants Zotob.A, Zotob.B, and Zotob.C, however, are a clear reminder that network administrators should keep their systems patched. -

In a keynote speech during a meeting of the International High Technology Crime Investigation Association on Monday, FBI assistant director for the cyber division, Louis Reigel, reportedly remarked to the 650 gathered members that the FBI, in cooperation with Turkish authorities, had identified 16 new suspects in connection with the Zotob worm investigation. -

Almost as fast as the Zotob worm exploited a reported Windows 2000 vulnerability, the Cyber Division of the FBI, in cooperation with Moroccan and Turkish authorities, as well as Microsoft itself, announced this morning the arrest overseas of two individuals in connection with the network worm investigation. -

CNN International television is reporting this afternoon that the FBI has announced arrests of two individuals - one in Morocco, the other in Turkey - who may be related to the outbreak of the Zotob virus, as well as perhaps one other virus chain.
