    Responding to claims from a prominent Princeton University computer science professor, Sony BMG has taken down the program it had been offering to enable customers to remove XCP copy protection software, and is promising to replace it with a simpler procedure that doesn't cause more security problems than it solves.

  • US Court approves settlement in Sony DRM suit - XCP gone

    The Southern US District Court of New York has given its preliminary approval to a settlement in a class-action lawsuit brought on against Sony by buyers of music CDs that carried XCP DRM protection. Buyers will be compensated with a CD and music downloads. Sony agreed not to use XCP and MediaMax in future CDs and will allow independent evaluation of future DRM.
