Sony's UMD format losing industry support

Sony had planned big things out of the small Universal Media Disc (UMD). Introduced in 2005, UMDs sold like hotcakes initially. Back then, Sony officials said that manufacturing lines were stretched to capacity and that production would be expanded to 500,000 units per day. Now the situation looks bleak as several movie studios have eliminated or reduced their UMD offerings. -
