  According to sources, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has signed an informal agreement with the Shanghai city government to establish the Songjiang Industrial Zone as the site for the foundry leader's first 8" wafer fab in China.

  Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) are expected to keep using fluorinated silicate glass (FSG), a low-k dielectric material, for their 90-nanometer (nm) production, according to sources.

  Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) internally project excess capacity in their 0.35- to 0.18-micron CMOS production in the third quarter and expect their blank wafer inventories will not be fully digested until after the end of the third quarter, according to sources.
