  • Symbol introduces new wearable computer

    Symbol Technologies has released a new computer that can be worn on either the hip or the wrist. The WT400 line of computers have a 2.8" 320 by 240 pixel screen, 128 MB of RAM and use an Intel XScale PXA270 520 MHz processor. Designed to be used mainly as a product scanner in busy stockrooms, the computers are ruggedized against bumps and 4-foot drops to concrete.

    Symbol Technologies today announced plans for its "Wireless Next Generation (Wi-NG) architecture. The company said the architecture enables the consolidation of Wi-Fi, RFID, VoWLAN (Voice over Wireless LAN), mesh and WiMAX networks in what it says is the industry's first integrated RF switching platform.

    Symbol Technologies, today introduced a dual-band 802.11a/b Access Port for its Wireless Switch product.The Access Port includes 802.11a base capability, and takes a modular approach with multiple antenna options for both 11a and 11b, and a single 2.4Ghz expansion slot for 802.11b or 11g expansion.The product also supports IEEE 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (POE), and includes two built-in Ethernet ports for ease of daisy-chaining to other Access Ports.The Symbol Access Port will be available in summer 2003 at an estimated list price of $249
  • Motorola buys Symbol Technologies

    Schaumburg (IL) - Motorola and Symbol Technologies today announced that they have merged in an arrangement that Motorola says will help its business strategy of seamless mobile integration. The acquisition, which costs Motorola $15 per share of Symbol stock, is expected to be finalized by the early part of 2007.
