  • Desktop CPU Charts Q3/2008

    Tom's Interactive CPU Charts offer the most comprehensive x86 processor comparison on the Internet. The 2008 edition includes as many as 91 AMD and Intel desktop processors, which we tested across 35 individual benchmarks under Windows Vista. The benchmarks include industry standard software as well as popular workloads across multiple application categories, allowing you to find the CPU that meets your requirements (see benchmark details below the charts). The Charts are also a valuable tool if you want to check how your computer stacks up against current hardware. The 2008 charts include three different processor generations, starting with AMD's Socket 939 Athlons and Semprons, and including all Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors that were released for Socket 775.

  • Micron first to sample 32-bit DDR DIMM modules

    On November 25 Micron Technology announced that it is sampling 32-bit DDR DIMM modules, already available in densities from 32MB to 256MB and speed grades of DDR266 and DDR333.
  • AMD's dual core Toledo to sample first half 2005

    AMD roadmaps at the now famous Porcupine pub show that AMD will release its desktop Toledo dual core 939 pin chip at 90 nanometres and using SOI in the second half of next year.
  • Intel to sample Conroe processor in Q1 2006

    With Yonah and Presler almost out the door, Intel's development focus in the consumer and business segment begins to shift to the next generation desktop processor architecture. The company already operates bootable systems based on Conroe processors and will initiate the sampling phase in early 2006, Tom's Hardware Guide has learned.
  • VIA to sample PCI Express P4 chipset in January

    VIA Technologies will begin sampling the PT890, an 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) Pentium 4 (P4) chipset supporting dual-channel DDR400 DDRII and PCI Express, next month.
  • Opteron 90 nanometer chips to sample in weeks

    Sources at PC manufacturers close to AMD's plans tell the INQUIRER that Opteron processors using the 90 nanometer die shrink are likely to be in their hands as early as December.
