A brief statement issued this evening, European time, on behalf of the European Commission, indicates that it is leaving its options open with regard to whether Microsoft's creation of new "reference licenses" for certain elements of Windows source code, qualifies as an adequate response to its call for documentation of those elements.

These last few days, I have fanned the fanboy flames of the barbecue of indignation (Happy Independence Day), so, being a good judge of hate mail by now, I can feel the lethargy all around me. There used to be more bite, more venom, and more banter in the old days (2002). Who can blame them, the PC platform is languishing. Hardware fanatics are at a loss, and maybe that's why they sometimes seem to be clutching at straws - to maintain enthusiasm. Can the Open Source movement step into this vacuum? -
