Intel's recent roadmap for notebook products looks quite jolly. Already in the beginning of next year we will see the first Giga Hertz processor for mobile platforms and mobile Pentium III processors at up to 1.26 GHz will arrive soon afterwards as well. The workstation and server roadmap is not quite as interesting, except for the fact that Intel is counting a lot on 'Third Party' chipset makers to provide non-RDRAM platforms for those systems. -

Last week, we had a closer look at AMD's plans how to close the gap to Intel with near- and mid-term products. This week, we will focus on Intel's new products for 2007 as well as the remainder of this year. Intel is in a very comfortable position as it can wait and see: Quad-cores on the high-end, faster dual-cores in the mainstream, coupled with a new chipset, dominate the 2007 roadmap.

AMD preps launch of three FX processors for 4x4 platform*

AMD remains very secretive about its two-processor 4x4 platform, which aims to decrease the performance gap to Intel's dual-core and upcoming quad-core processors on the very high-end of the enthusiast PC segment. A new roadmap provides more insight in the firm's CPU plans for the next year or so - and indicates that AMD is collecting enough CPU supply to launch 4x4 on a broad basis.
