Together, Dell's XPS product line and its new wholly-owned subsidiary, Alienware, share 60% of the high-end gaming and enthusiast PC market, states company chairman Michael Dell, citing internal research. He believes these two market slices are cumulative because the two companies address different areas of the same market, as he explained to TG Daily on Sunday.

Although Dell originally announced its Pentium D 900 series-based XPS 700 system last May, few - if any - customers who purchased this system have actually seen it shipped to them. And most of those customers, who have now been offered upgrades to the improved, Core 2 Duo or Extreme-based model, have been told their systems will ship in mid-October, if not later. What's really going on?

Dell blames cooling assembly for XPS 700 delays*

Dell Computer corporate communications specialist Liem Nguyen told TG Daily this afternoon that a problem with the installation of the cooling assembly in the company's top-of-the-line enthusiast desktop system, the XPS 700, has been pegged as the culprit responsible for shipment delays, a series of which has plagued the product since its announcement late last May.
