  • What do you think of the new design? - Forum

It's nowhere nearly as instantly accessable, you can't simply scan the headlines of the news (which is one of the first things I do when visting) you have to go through a numbered list (which also cycles) to see them all is too long winded and highly annoying to use. This after bashing said old one when it was new... This after bashing said old one when it was new... Another moan :) I'm not keen on the central news component that moves between the 5 main news items. I'm going to have to disagree with ethel on the news cycling thing, while the US one may show more info, its alot more annoying that the UK one, which is less distracting....

  • Tom's Blurb: Current Stats of Intel and AMD - Articles & reviews

This column is one of the new things at the Tom's Hardware Guide website. The latest news for today reached me in form of a press release from Intel. Unlike the known Celerons 266,300,300A and 333, the newones are now also available as socketed versions. You could never buy as much computing power for so little money as with a Celeron for Socket 370 and one of the new Socket370-motherboards. One wonders also why anyone should buy the much more expensive Pentium II anymore, but didn't I already say that Pentium II will be dead soon? ...

  • CES 2006 Preview: Will low-power, digital life, and rights management sell to consumers? - News

Las Vegas (NV) - The end of the holiday season means one thing : the beginning of the next holiday season, especially from the perspective of consumer electronics manufacturers who see 2006 as a make-or-break year. Only one of our tasks this week will be covering the "hot gadgets." We’ll be honest with you : You’ll see a lot of "hot gadgets" coverage just by turning on your own local newscast at about 18 minutes past noon your time, and watching the two-minute package being fed to your station by one of the networks or news syndication services. But there will indeed be a great deal of gadget news, including anticipated announcements from Sony on its forthcoming PlayStation 3 console, and from Intel on its new brand, new ad campaign, and new lines of chips and chipsets. After the news of the Xbox 360 premiere’s rousing success has faded, we start to see some evidence of significant problems....

  • ATI leads a week of graphics news with rollout of Mobility X1800, X1800 XT - News

ATI leads a week of graphics news with rollout of Mobility X1800, X1800 XT. ati introduces mobility x1800 x1800xt. With not only desktop system designers but the users themselves crafting new and effective cooling mechanisms, ATI could conceivably announce new desktop performance at any point, he said ; but in the mobile space, "we’re tied into the platform." While ATI spokespeople have all declined comment since that time on whether Mobility X1800 and X1800 XT constitutes a "5" on the new WSPR scale of 1 to 5, Darren McPhee did tell TG Daily that these new GPUs are both "Vista-capable," and have been tested with the latest CTP (Build 5308). He added that ATI is not ready at this time to state unequivocally that any of its mobile GPUs in the X1000 series, including its newestones, will run Microsoft’s upcoming DirectX 10 graphics drivers without modification. Based on that information, no one - not Microsoft, not ATI, and certainly not anyone in the press - may be able to say for certain whether even ATI’s top-of-the-line mobile graphics products, introduced just today, will provide the performance levels that Microsoft has in mind for Windows Vista-based mobile systems....

NVIDIA Puts Its (New) Cards on the Table. nvidia puts its. NVIDIA tries to hit back at ATi's launch lead with its news enthusiast and mid-range graphics cards: the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and the FX 5700, respectively. Low-carb! (well, maybe not) Tom's Networking Guide. new. We've got a new look as TG Publishing debuts two new sites.. As you've read in our fearless leaders' message, where before there were two - our big brother Tom's Hardware Guide and us - there are now four places in the TG Publishing empire where you can get your daily tech news and info fix. • Tom's Blurb: Why We Don't Trust Rambus - Pointing Out Facts, Turning Rumors Into Reality - Articles & reviews

It might not be news to the ones of you, who have been closely following the dealings of Rambus, the company that 'invented' the dreaded RDRAM memory. One Hand Washes The Other Or "Gimme The Cash!" The basic information in the article is not brand new, but I really liked the fact that we all get reminded of what's really behind the strategy of Rambus Inc. When Intel 'decided' to go for Rambus technology some three years ago, it wasn't out of pure believe into technology and certainly not just 'for the good of its customers', but simply because they got an offer they couldn't refuse....

  • THG Interviews Pamela Jones, Groklaw Founder - News

I knew from reading Slashdot that there was a hunger to understand legal cases in the news. I did specifically set out to explain the legal process, so people would be able to understand the news. That was back when SCO seemed like more of a threat, so I believe it would probably be less now on quiet news days, but I don’t really know. Some of his employees, he told me, have their phones set up to notify them every time there is a new article....
