Las Vegas (NV) - The end of the holiday season means one thing : the beginning of the next holiday season, especially from the perspective of consumer electronics manufacturers who see 2006 as a make-or-break year. Only one of our tasks this week will be covering the "hot gadgets." We’ll be honest with you : You’ll see a lot of "hot gadgets" coverage just by turning on your own local newscast at about 18 minutes past noon your time, and watching the two-minute package being fed to your station by one of the networks or news syndication services. But there will indeed be a great deal of gadget news, including anticipated announcements from Sony on its forthcoming PlayStation 3 console, and from Intel on its new brand, new ad campaign, and new lines of chips and chipsets. After the news of the Xbox 360 premiere’s rousing success has faded, we start to see some evidence of significant problems....

While ATI spokespeople have all declined comment since that time on whether Mobility X1800 and X1800 XT constitutes a "5" on the new WSPR scale of 1 to 5, Darren McPhee did tell TG Daily that these new GPUs are both "Vista-capable," and have been tested with the latest CTP (Build 5308). He added that ATI is not ready at this time to state unequivocally that any of its mobile GPUs in the X1000 series, including its newestones, will run Microsoft’s upcoming DirectX 10 graphics drivers without modification. Based on that information, no one - not Microsoft, not ATI, and certainly not anyone in the press - may be able to say for certain whether even ATI’s top-of-the-line mobile graphics products, introduced just today, will provide the performance levels that Microsoft has in mind for Windows Vista-based mobile systems....
