The big news about the firm’s newnotebooks is Intel’s Kedron wireless chipset, which now offers draft 802.11n capability in a Centrino-branded mobile computer. The new A205 versions can be split in two groups - one that is offering 15.4" screens and another one that comes exclusively with 17" widescreen LCDs. The higher-end S4639 ($1550) comes with two (Toshiba) hard drives - one 120 GB and one 160 GB drive for a total capacity of 280 GB. Toshiba claims that it is the first notebook vendor to offer a 17" notebook for $1000....

In Search of a Travel Notebook. in search of a travel notebook. It was the holiday shopping season, deals were plentiful and a good time to shop for a newnotebook to ease a heavy travel load. I recently decided that my 7-or-so pound Dell Inspiron 4100 notebook was getting too heavy to lug around trade shows. Anyone who has gone through the exercise of buying a notebook computer knows that it's a highly personal process. One person's "slim and light" is another's "big and heavy" (not that you'd find the latter used in a notebook marketing pitch...) and in the end, the machine that's right for you might not light someone else's fire....

Sony also introduced the Vaio PCV-L600 Slimtop computer and the C1 PictureBook micro notebook.
